Technical issues
Do I need to download and start a software program to use Spreed?
No, as Spreed is entirely web-based, downloading and running a software program is generally not required. You need a web browser and the Adobe Flash plug-in only. However, to be able to share a screen (Spreed Screen Sharing) or to use our feature Spreed Remote Control, you will have to download and run the Spreed Client. More information on requirements is available here.

What are the requirements on the system to use Spreed?

Spreed is working with all established operating systems and web browsers. There is no additional software required. If you and your participants use Spreed Web Meetings simultaneously from different systems (e.g. Windows XP and Mac OS X) there is no loss of quality. More information on requirements is available here.

Do I require special firewall settings for Spreed web meetings?
Using Spreed Web Meetings does not require special firewall settings. However, with some firewall settings the communication between your desktop and the server goes through a "HTTP proxy" server. Depending on your available Internet bandwidth and the speed of the Proxy server, audio and video can be delayed. If the latency (the delay) is higher than 200ms you should speak with your system administrator to enable TCP port 1935 (outgoing only) to let Spreed communicating faster. In rare cases "stateful firewalls" may interrupt the Spreed connection after some amount of data has been transferred. Contact your system administrator in this case.
Spreed utilizes the encrypted Real-Time Streaming Protocol (RTMP/E), for audio and video communication. Spreed usually communicates through TCP port 1935 (outgoing-only). In case of firewall restrictions, Spreed communicates through HTTP tunneling on TCP port 80 (the default HTTP-Port) and TCP port 443 (default HTTP/S port).

What happens, if my Internet connection is very slow while in a web meeting?
Spreed automatically adjusts the quality of video and audio when the Internet connection is changing. In some cases video and audio are automatically disabled because the Internet connection is too slow. Please read on to learn the bandwidth requirements.

What are the Internet bandwidth requirements for Spreed meetings (audio, video and presentations)?
The required Internet bandwidth depends on the number of participants within the meeting. For audio communication (VoIP) only a minimum bandwidth of approx. 20 kBit/s (0.02Mbit/s) times the number of participants will be required. For video and audio a bandwidth between of approx. 50 kBit/s (depending on video quality) and 120 kBit/s is required upstream (for downstream: 50 kBit/s - 120 kBit/s times the number of participants). Example: for a Spreed conference with 5 participants where each participant transmits both audio and video, each participant requires 50 kBit/s connection speed to the server (upstream) and 200 kBit/s downstream (4 x 50 kBit/s) bandwidth. Screen or desktop sharing requires about 50 to 3 MBit/s upstream bandwidth depending on the shared screen size and level of detail.

Do participants need special skills or knowledge to be able to join a meeting?
Spreed features an intuitive user interface in many different languages. This implies English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Russian, Czech and Swedish. The user interface is easy to understand and can be used by the average Internet user without any problems.

Are Spreed features like „Screens Sharing“ and „Remote Control“ safe?
Yes, Spreed Screen Sharing only shows content to participants that is explicitly selected to be shown. Spreed Remote Control instead offers a feature for participants to cancel the application, simply by pressing "ESC“ on their keyboard. More information on screen sharing and remote control is available in our brochures.

Are Spreed Web Meetings safe?
Yes. Spreed uses modern security standards. Find more information on security in our brochure Spreed Security.

Troubleshooting
What to do when experiencing audio problems?
Please read on in our audio support document Solving Audio Problems.

What to do when participants do not receive invitations?
Invitation emails are sent out by Spreed using a registered email server. In rare cases, these automatic generated emails are rejected from the recipients email server or spam filters. In this case please send out the email invitations manually from your email account. Please add your Meeting-ID, starting date and the participant’s individual password (private meetings only) to the invitation. Participants then can join the meeting on Spreed.com by entering their email-address and password.

What happens when a short connection outage occurs?
Lost connection is automatically re-established for short (less then 30 seconds) connection losses. If the connection is lost for more than 30 seconds, the participant can manually re-establish the dropped connection by leaving the meeting room and reenter it.

Telephone conferencing
What are the requirements for Spreed telephone conferencing (dial-in and dial-out)?
To be able to use Spreed telephone conferencing you will need a phone. Dial-in calls (calls into a meeting) are billed at local rates. To allow worldwide dial-in, Spreed offers a list of international dial-in numbers. The complete list is available in our reference card. To do dial-out calls (out of a meeting) you will need Spreed Credits and at least a Spreed Channel Pro licence.

Can I use any phone to do telephone conferencing?
Yes, Spreed Telephone Conferencing can be used with any modern phone, mobile as well as land-line.

What is and where to get my moderator PIN?
A moderator PIN is used to enter a meeting as a moderator via phone. Configure your 7-digit moderator PIN in your settings, before you enter a meeting on the phone.

Working with content
What documents/files are supported to be shown in presentations?
The following files can be uploaded and presented in a web meeting: Adobe PDF, MS Powerpoint, MS Word, MS Excel, OpenDocument, OpenOffice, images (JPG, PNG, TIFF, GIF, etc.), video (AVI, FLV, etc.) and audio (MP3, etc.).
By the help of screen sharing you can present any file format and application on your computer. More information is available in our brochures. By using Spreed Co Browsing you can easily present websites and web content. It is working with your web browser and simultaneously shows up the sites that you visit in your participants’ browsers.

Presenting Powerpoint files. What to consider?
Animated effects of Powerpoint Documents can not be visualised after uploading. However, to display the animation, please present your .ppt files with screen sharing.

Are presentations, video and audio synchronized simultaneously?
Yes. A streaming server delivers synchronized audio and video to all participants. Content is always in sync under the assumption that the available Internet bandwidth is sufficient for all participants. Documents which are presented can only be out of sync in case that the Internet connection is lost. Changing slides is instantaneous and requires a minimum bandwidth of few hundred bits per second.

When ending a meeting, can presentations, chat-logs and recordings be exported or viewed afterwards?
Files and presentations can be exported while still in the meeting or afterwards in the archive. Recordings can be viewed out of the archive, chat-logs can be exported as CSV. To allow participants to watch recordings or download files, you first have to publish the meeting in the archive. Recordings and files are available on the meeting’s landing page then.

What happens to files and presentations after the meeting has been ended?
Content, as is files, presentations, chat-logs and the participant list, is saved and stored for seven days. You can access the content in your archive and delete it, if requested. After seven days the meeting, including all content, will be deleted automatically. Please note that meetings that contain recordings are not deleted within seven days but remain for a longer period of time in your archive.

How to control content provided by participants?
Content, as is presentations ans files, can be deleted by a moderator or made invisible by switching the presentation mode. Furthermore moderators can switch off the chat feature and the participant list.

Can a voting be saved and exported?
You can save a voting, even when it has not been started yet. Saved votings can be started at any time and over again. Please note that the result of a voting will be overwritten, when the voting is started again. There is no export of the results available at the moment.

What area is recorded, when using the recording feature?
Recordings contain every content and interaction. The video size and the number of video and audio streams (can be more then one) determines recording size. The recording size of a typical 5 hour session with one trainee with video/audio is between 200 and 400 MByte. Please take note that video-recordings can not be exported. However, audio-recordings can be downloaded as MP3 file afterwards.

Web Meeting Interface
What is the minimum screen resolution to use Spreed without any problems?
Spreed works on all established screen resolutions. However, please use a minimum resolution of 640 x 480 pixels in order to avoid problems with the interface.

Is it possible to configure the product to run in 'lite' mode (limited features, no video, no audio, etc.)?
Yes. As moderator you can configure your meeting on creation (permanent chat, PDF download, etc.) as well as in a running mode (silence all participants, disable video, etc.).

Can I customize the user interface (private branding)?
You can add a personal logo to your web meeting. It will be displayed instead of the Spreed Logo. Please take note that this feature is not available for Spreed Free. There are currently no further changes possible by yourself. However, we offer the ability to change the design by ourselves. Please contact us for further information.
